In September 2021, a group of people hiked up the Alps mountains in Europe to say goodbye to a glacier. It appears that this glacier is becoming dead ice, meaning a large amount of glacier ice has stopped moving and will simply melt. As a young climate activist, this news made me extremely sad. Many other glaciers are also disappearing fast. Glaciers around the world are at risk. When glaciers disappear, the water source for some communities disappears. In addition, glacier melting contributes to a rise in sea levels. A rise in sea levels threatens the environment.

So, what are we going to do about this problem?

I believe we need to empower communities to live a greener life by offering education about our environment and by conducting more conservation projects that look after animals and plants in the wild. There are organizations that protect and restore lands and oceans, and we should share their great work. If we don’t protect nature, it can’t protect us! Let’s admit our mistakes and learn from them rather than ignore them. We are experiencing a shared global crisis. Let’s work towards the same goal and restore a natural balance to Earth.

I would like to see a future where we support greener businesses and produce more solar, wind, and wave energy. I think we can create this future if we act now!
