In the northeastern part of Italy, there is a city called Venice. It is called the “Floating City” because it has one hundred eighteen islands, so it appears to be floating on the water. More than four hundred bridges connect all the islands and allow people to walk around easily. Another way to get around the city is by a boat typical of the region called a gondola.

In the past, Venice was an important center for business. People came to Venice to buy different things that they could not get anywhere else. The people of Venice became very rich selling cloth, glass, spices, and metals, and they used the money to build big, beautiful houses. Visitors to Venice can still see these buildings as they walk around the city. Other tourist attractions include ancient churches and palaces that are usually located next to large city squares.

Venice is also well known for its art and music. There are many big museums full of amazing art by famous painters. When you visit Venice, enjoy the work of the best artists from history. Many famous classical musicians were born in Venice. One musician, for example, wrote some music called The Four Seasons, which is four pieces of music about the different seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. If you visit Venice, you can go to a concert to listen to the musicians playing their instruments. Opera is another important part of the culture of Venice, and there is a theater where you can experience the music in its real home.

Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and many people say that it is the most romantic city in the world as well.
