Social media is a big part of many people’s lives. They share information, ideas, messages, photos, and videos online using their cell phones and computers. They use social media to have fun and share their interests. People talk about games, TV shows, music, hobbies, and more. They also use social media to make friends and stay in touch with family members living far away. Learning can also happen using social media.

Clearly, social media can be useful. But there are also dangers. Sometimes people post comments that are not kind, and these can make others feel unhappy. There are many advertisements on social media, too. Some of them may not be meant for children to see. Also, other people can share your photos or videos without permission, and that might upset you.

To stop bad things happening while online, there are some ways to protect yourself. Do not give out personal information like phone numbers, your address, or your date of birth to people you do not know. Keep your password to yourself; do not share it with your friends. If someone posts something that upsets you, block their posts. Do not click on too many advertisements, photos, or videos. These can take you to unsafe websites that steal your files or infect your computer with a dangerous virus.
