Emily enjoyed spending hours in her grandmother’s attic looking through old boxes. Sometimes she found items with fascinating histories. One morning, she was searching through a box in her grandmother’s attic when she found a coat. It was a very elegant fur coat. But being an animal lover, Emily threw the coat on the floor angrily.

“It’s fake,” Grandmother said. Then she added, “A famous actress gave it to me.”

“What? A famous actress!” Emily was suddenly very curious.

Grandmother smiled and explained. Many years ago, she played a small part in a movie, and the main actress gave her the coat on the last day of filming because it was a cold afternoon.

“And she let me keep it,” Grandmother said. “She said it would be a good way to remember the movie!”

A coat from a real movie star! Emily was sure it had a few stories of its own! Since Grandmother never wore the coat anymore and Emily was only interested in its story, they took it to a local vintage shop and sold it. Somebody else would love to have it.

Another object Emily found was a beautiful old typewriter, sitting behind a box in the attic.

“What’s this?” Emily asked.

“I used to write stories,” Grandmother explained. “I wrote children’s stories. The main character’s name was Emily. She was really brave and went on many adventures.”

“That’s my name!” Emily said excitedly.

“It is. Maybe your mom found some of those stories,” Grandmother said, and smiled. Then she explained to Emily how a typewriter worked.
